The Owon MSO8102T mixed signal oscilloscope combines a 100 MHz, two-channel digital oscilloscope that has a maximum real-time sample rate of 1 GS/s per channel (2 GS/s interleaved) and a record length of 2 Mpts per channel for acquiring detailed waveforms with a 200 MHz, 16-channel logic analyzer that has a sample rate of 20 S/s to 1 GS/s per channel and a record length of 4 Mpts per channel for advanced debugging of embedded systems. The oscilloscope has an external channel that can trigger from a third source while acquiring data from channels 1 and 2. Cursor measurements, four math functions—add, subtract, multiply, and divide—plus FFT (fast Fourier transform), and 20 automatic measurements such as cycle, frequency, and peak-to-peak enable an in-depth analysis of waveforms. Up to four waveforms can be stored in the internal memory. Additional specifications include a rise time of 3.5 ns and various triggering features. The oscilloscope has a USB host port for storing data on a flash drive (sold separately), a USB device port for transferring data to a PC, and includes Microsoft Windows compatible software for transmitting data and remote operation. Its 8" color TFT (thin film transistor) LCD has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels for viewing waveforms and an adjustable backlight for enhanced visibility. It has European Conformity (CE) marking. It comes with a logic analyzer measurement module; a passive voltage probe; a probe adjustment tool; CD-ROM PC software; a USB/RS-232 interface cable; a power cord for 100 to 240VAC, 50/60Hz; and instructions. Oscilloscopes are electrical testing devices used to verify the functionality of equipment that generates an electrical signal. Oscilloscopes measure the voltage of an electrical signal over time, and display the measurement as a waveform in a visual graph. The waveform shows the sweeps (or refresh) of voltage on a vertical (Y) axis, and the time on a horizontal (X) axis. Details of a waveform demonstrate the signal over time. Most oscilloscopes have two or four channels for inputting a signal. Some digital oscilloscopes offer more than four channels, allowing channels to be dedicated to specific signals and applications. 4Overall Very Pleased

The only existing review of this is from someone who couldn't get the software to run on their PC and returned it. Fair enough, if you want a scope like this so you can hook it to your PC, you've been warned. I suspect most people don't see this as a critical function (why not get a USB based box that would be smaller?), so I thought I'd chime in as one who has never even attempted to use it via my PC.

I bought this when I was overseas to debug a hardware problem so I didn't get it through Amazon. I'm a firmware guy by education, so keep that in mind as you read this. I needed both a scope and a logic analyzer. I had hoped that it would provide true integration of the two functions, but unfortunately it really just has two distinct modes of operation. There are generally ways around that as long as your condition is repeatable, but if you need live, coordinated, mixed signal, I don't believe this unit will do that.

That is the main reason I give this four stars instead of five.

The manual is Chinglish, but it's certainly not the worst example I've seen. The good news is that figuring out the unit via the controls themselves is pretty straightforward if you've used a scope or analyzer before. If you haven't, well, I still think you'll be fine if you watch some of the great examples out there on YouTube even if they aren't for this partcular scope.

The screen is quite nice, good contrast and sharp. The controls all have a solid feel to them. The only real "build problem" I see with my unit is that the control label overlays are just *slightly* off. Parts otherwise fit together as you would expect and none of my fellow picky, nerdy types who have seen the unit have ever said anything about the overlay.

The oscilloscope side of the unit has all the functionality I've needed. Good set of signal measurements, pretty easy to figure out the controls. I wouldn't say I've pushed its limits as far as bandwidth, but for all of my analog signal work (mostly sensors of various types), it has performed well.

The logic analyzer has also been quite useful. The "Deep Memory" setting lets you store a lot of data, as long as you don't need really high bandwidth. Here the controls seemed a little less intuitive but admittedly all I've ever used before is a USB/PC unit and this has a ton more options with no mouse to help. Again, so far I've worked extensively up to 32Mhz with the analyzer and it has proven itself multiple times.

The feature that I never thought I'd use but now love is the battery. You can get this with or without an internal rechargeable battery and after much debate I ended up going ahead and springing for the battery. Then, not a month later I found myself having to debug a problem in a remote location with very limited power. Awesome. In the past when I had an issue with a unit, I'd drag the unit back into my office to hook it up and debug. Now, I just pull the power cord out of my OWON and take it to the problem.

Hopefully someone else who has pushed the unit to its limits will chime in here, but I think it's a pretty impressive unit for the price. It's definitely not a two-star product.

4small lightweight mixed logic analyzer

I bought this recently. I couldn't find a review for it anywhere before I bought mine. It is a light weight, small, 2 channel oscilloscope with a 16 channel logic analyzer. I haven't used it extensively but from my limited use I can say that it is a good tool to test your hardware and embedded software. It has a nice 8" screen for diaplay. It runs on battery too, but doesn't come with the rechargable battery. Owon has a website but right now customer support doesn't exist as far as I know. From the Owon website, you can download the users manual and some pc software to display the captured data. From the user's manual you can get an idea about the capabilities of this tool.

It comes with two reasonably good probes and user's manual.

2Software would not operate on my computer

The unit seemed to work as a standalone unit, however the software to connect it to a computer would not work correctly. The CD supplied with the unit would not run at all, and the driver downloaded from their web site installed but would not recognize the unit over USB. I returned this device to the manufacturer.
