Decent scope to fit a budget
By Michael Raiford
After unpacking, the unit was a bit bigger than expected, something to keep in mind if you're going to be carrying it around with you in your notebook case, despite its size, it is very lightweight. After installing the software and plugging it in to the USB port, and hooking a probe up to the internal test signal, the scope worked flawlessly out of the box. Installation on a Windows 7 64 bit machine went smoothly, giving absolutely no problems. The software offers all of the functionality you'd expect from a 2 channel scope. Although the software has a few rough edges, it works well and gets the job done. The only thing I had a real serious problem with was the pulse width trigger; for whatever reason, I could not get this feature to work, no matter how hard I tried. It may be related to what I was monitoring, or something different, I'm not sure, but it never seemed to trigger reliably on a pulse. Rising and falling edge triggering worked perfectly. The software has some useful features like being able to measure the length of a pulse, calculating the frequency of the signal and even showing a Fourier transform of the signal. I'd say this is a win for the hobbyist.
The bottom line:
Pros:
* Software and driver installs smoothly.
* Performs the functions of a 2 channel scope, even X/Y plots
* Can measure signals up to 100mHZ without a problem
* Lots of options in the software for various features
* Includes an SDK so you can write your own software using the scope.
Cons:
* Software feels a bit primitive at times
* Occasionally, the interface seems a bit clunky
* FFT works, but doesn't seem very useful the way it is implemented and I have encountered crashes using FFT.
* Triggering on a pulse length didn't seem to work.
I would recommend this product for anyone starting out in electronics that needs to see the signal as their circuit runs.

Stay Away.
By Dennis Edinger
The unit is unstable and the software is full of bugs.
It works fine to see and measure it's own 1kHz square-wave calibration signal. But, any attempt to connect a probe to an external circuit sends the unit into the weeds, and needs a PC reboot. I have never been able to determine the meaning of the red/green LED on the unit. I have not been able to do any useful work with it.
PC is a Cpmpaq Presario 900 laptop running Windows Home XP w/SP3.
I have been unable to find any professional support or decent forum. The Hantek website [...] has much to be desired. Questions put to Hantek's so called forum (arcane and convoluted) have gone unanswered for more than a year.
Good price, good features if the thing actually worked. Very disappointing.

Poor Software Support
By Aaron Reynoso
I purchased this PC based USB DSO because the specs looked respectable. I was looking for a small compact DSO that I could carry around with me and interface with my notebook. This device seemed to meet these requirements, especially since it gets power through the USB interface, no need for an extra power supply.
Problem is with the software, I had difficulties installing on my Windows 7 desktop, it didn't self install. I had to go into device manager and manually re-install the driver from the installation CD before the DSO responded (flashing LED). The DSO is functional on my Win7 desktop but it was a frustrating experience, the Hantek website is terrible, it offered no solution and their chat line never responded back.
Next I tried to install on my Windows 8 notebook, same issues with the installation however this time the installation through device manager did not work. Now I have the Hantek software partly installed on my Win8 notebook (can't un-install) and the DSO doesn't respond. I gave up and returned the unit. Amazon support was very helpful and provided me with an RMA and no-cost return shipping.
In summary, I am deeply dissatisfied with Hantek but very satisfied with Amazon.
