Digital Oscilloscope DIY Kit

Digital Oscilloscope DIY Kit Review

This kit includes everything you need to build your very own, fully functional, digital oscilloscope. Once you've got it up and running, the oscilloscope features up to 5M samples/second, 8-bit resolution, up to 50Vpp max input voltage, and more!

This kit includes a semi-populated PCB, with all of the surface mount components already soldered on for you. The components left for you to solder are all through-hole. This is on the higher end of difficulty as far as through-hole kits go.

This kit pairs nicely with our BNC Probe Kit! A 9V power supply is required to run the oscilloscope; supply is not included.

Features:

9VDC power supply voltage
<280mA current draw
5M samples/second (AUTO mode only)
8 bit resolution
256 sample memory depth
1MHz analog bandwidth
100mV/Div-5V/Div sensitivity
1MΩ impedance
50Vpeak-to-peak max input voltage
DC/AC coupling
Save and display up to 6 captures to memory
Transfer screen capture to PC as a bitmap file (serial adapter not included)
Backlit LCD display

1Reckless and negligent business practice
By Mohamed F. El-Hewie
The seller is well aware of design error in capacitor C14 but failed to alert the buyers on the product box and enclosed brochure.

The enclosed brochure is entirely useless, while a document by the seller disclosed the following statement:

"2) Reverse the polarity of C14, in other words, put its negative pin into the square pad. This is due to a design error."

So, after following the schematic, the 9VDC that was supposed to be regulated to 5vDC had capacitor C14 was connected as the schematic shows, turned into a dancing voltage, shorted few transistors (Q1 and Q2) and made all components see 9 VDC. A total loss of a board that was supposed to save money and bring joy.

The irony of such recklessness and negligence in selling products while failing to disclose design errors is that both buyers and sellers lose due to the laziness of the seller to place clear warning that costs nothing.

So, I returned the product to Amazon with a report of the document:

DN062-07v07
JYE Tech - 1 - [...]
062 LCD Oscilloscope Assembly Notes

which the seller failed to place in the product item. That cost me many hours of attempting to get the oscilloscope to work assuming that the schematic was valid. It was not.

2CanaKit DSO 062 Oscilloscope
By Honey Creek Radio
I am an experienced kit builder since the mid-sixties. I would not recommend this little oscilloscope gadget. For me -- it does NOT work - and there were only about 25 pieces to assemble. Having tried all of CanaKits' phone lines to get help - no one called back - all I got was their recorded message. I even tried calling as if I was interested in buying a kit - still no call back!! There is NO customer service. For anyone interested in buying from CanaKits, for me, I would not recommend CanaKits as a source of electronics supply...

4Good kit if you're advanced
By Reginald L. Gilmore
I've purchased the oscilloscope kit and assembled it in less than an hour and had it working and calibrated. Persons with no experience in electronics should not get a kit. I had fun building it and testing it and it appears useful for my particular needs. Also I have the proper tools and test equipment. I would have given a 5 star rating, but your directions for building it were not that clear.
